LILY & TOMATO ULTRA
One of the most celebrated manuscript illumination artists was Joris Hoefnagel. In the 1590s the Emperor Rudolf II commissioned Hoefnagel to add his illuminations to the Mira calligraphiae monumenta, a mid-16th-century manuscript on the art of calligraphy. This notebook design comes from the 1830 cover of James Bentham's The History and Antiquities of the Conventual and Cathedral Church of Ely. Ely was founded in 673 AD and the cathedral was built, destroyed and rebuilt in various forms before restorations between 1845-1870 saw key sections rebuilt in Decorated Gothic style.
