Rizzoli Bookstore received the royal treatment when Princess Gloria of Thurn und Taxis arrived in New York City to celebrate the publication of THE HOUSE OF THURN UND TAXIS. It all began when the princess landed here earlier this week with her one of a kind Valentino wedding dress in tow. Vogue’s André Leon Talley, a close friend to the princess, decorated our windows with the delicate gown and numerous images from the book. But this impressive display was only the beginning of the festivities, which culminated in a holiday themed soiree hosted by Town and Country

The entire bookstore was transformed into a lush, winter wonderland, complete with yards upon yards of garland and numerous ropes of glittering twinkle lights. Many of the impressive contributors to the book were in attendance, including Artist Jeff Koons, Art Historian Sir John Richardson and Photographer Todd Eberle, who gets credit for the stunning photos featured in THE HOUSE OF THURN UND TAXIS. The evening concluded with Town and Country Editor in Chief Jay Fielden posing for pictures with the princess in front of her Gucci adorned motorcycle that was rolled into the bookstore’s foyer for the occasion.

In celebration of Your Beauty Mark: The Ultimate Guide to Eccentric Glamour, Dita Von Teese turned our Salon into a vintage talk show set (think two Phil Donahues in red lipstick and high heels) to launch her much anticipated manual on all things beauty. Joining her on stage was collaborator Rose Apodaca and a few of their closest confidants, including  Barney's New York's Simon Doonan, comedian Murray Hill, and burlesque pioneer Dirty Martini (to name a few). Each friend read a brief excerpt from the book, making for a spirited, entertaining evening of eccentric beauty and glamour! A booksigning followed which allowed for endless photo opportunities (though our favorite highlight from the event was when Dita herself got up to pose in front of our vivid fashion display). Signed copies are still available at the bookstore for those who missed the event.
