The MET brings Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons exhibit to Rizzoli!

05/24/2017 - 4:11pm

"What I've only ever been interested in are clothes that one has never seen before, that are completely new, and how in what way they can be expressed. Is that called fashion? I don't know the answer." -Rei Kawakubo

The Met celebrates the spring Costume Institute exhibition and catalogue Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between in the window at Rizzoli Bookstore now through June 4. Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons is widely recognized as among the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years. Known for her avant-garde designs that challenge conventional notions of beauty, good taste, and fashionability, she blurs the divide between art and fashion. The lavishly illustrated publication offers a fascinating glimpse into the mind of this fashion visionary through Kawakubo's commentary on her creative process and brilliant photographs by Paolo Roversi, Nicholas Alan Cope, and others. The exhibition is now on view through September 4 at The Met, located at 1000 Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street. The exhibition is made possible in part by Condé Nast.
