Talking Pictures: Alexandra Zsigmond in conversation with Manuele Fior and Tom Haugomat

In celebration of “TALKING PICTURES: Selected Books,” Alexandra Zsigmond, freelance curator and former New York Times editor, will be speaking with Manuele Fior and Tom Haugomat, both young talents from the European comics and illustration scene.  They will discuss telling stories through images, their attitudes towards still and moving images, and their particular ways of interpreting the visual book. The conversation will be followed by a book signing.

Manuele Fior received the Talking Pictures Honorable Mention for Comics in 2018 for The Interview (Fantagraphics).

Tom Haugomat won the Talking Pictures Selected Book 2019 for Picture Books with À travers (Editions Thierry Maignier) published in US as Through a Life (Nobrow).

TALKING PICTURES: The Visual Book Now is a program of events presented on the occasion of the New York Rights Fair. The program focuses on contemporary visual books including the graphic novel, the revival of children’s and adult picture books in Europe and the United States, the importance of book cover design, trends in  illustrating cook books, and the book-as-object.

For the first time Rizzoli Bookstore highlights the nine winners and 14 honorable mentions of "TALKING PICTURES: Selected Books". The selection highlights visual books in five categories for excellence in design, including cookbooks, art and photography books, architecture and graphic design, children's picture books and comics and graphic novels. The titles will be on display and available at Rizzoli Bookstore from May 25th to May 31st.
